Understanding the problem is part of preventing it.

SOSanfibios published its first educational ebook on emerging infectious diseases in amphibians with environmental educator Lidia Jiménez Pérez, author of Cuadernos de Alytes.

The guide covers chytridiomycosis, caused by Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis and Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans, and ranavirosis, caused by viruses of the genus Ranavirus.

It also introduces amphibians and their main threats and sets out measures to prevent pathogen spread, both during field visits and when keeping animals at home.

Biosecurity begins with recognising what we may be carrying without seeing it.

The ebook is designed as a practical, accessible resource that supports the conservation of amphibians and their habitats.
