Coordinated disease mitigation
Treating habitat to give populations time to recover.
Since 2019, SOSanfibios has worked with the Junta de Andalucía to disinfect Betic midwife toad breeding sites affected by chytridiomycosis.
The programme covers fourteen water bodies: two in Málaga, ten in Granada and two in Jaén. All had recorded cases of the disease.
Environmental treatments produced encouraging results and aim to create the conditions in which the most severely affected populations can recover.
Every treated water body is an opportunity to conserve an endemic species.
